Wedding Theme

Because Stephen and I are hopelessly young at heart, one major graphic element of our wedding will be pinwheels. Pinwheels will be the image for the stationery suite designed by me and printed by my friend Kristin's company Twin Ravens Press. Here's the first draft of my rsvp postcard:

I found this super cute necklace yesterday on Etsy by a Washington, D.C. designer Finch Metal. Twin Ravens Press also did Finch Metal's business suite printing. It's a small, small world.

I'm going to make dozens of fabric pinwheels for decorations. They will flutter across bushes during the courtyard ceremony and grace table toppers (possibly even the cake) during the reception.

The Dress! Post #1

I have found the place where I must get my wedding dress from!

The English Dept in downtown Portland is owned by local designer Elizabeth Dye. The tiny showroom –literally the size of my living room– is a wonderland of tulle, silk shantung, and handmade headpieces from another Portland designer, Twigs and Honey.

Seriously, after seeing this sign outside her store I knew it was meant to be!
E for English Dept...E for Elizabeth Dye...E for Emily! There's even a pencil, perfect for my wedding at an old elementary school!

Cake Topper!

Our cake topper is done! I love that we had all of these pieces!
Fun fact: Stephen's hair is courtesy of his Han Solo Lego dude from his Millennium Falcon set.

Kennedy School

I'll enter the courtyard this way......and try not to fall while I walk this direction!

Going to the chapel...well, not really

I thought I'd start this blog off right and list the things we have planned so far.

Date: Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009

Venue:
McMenamin's Kennedy School, Portland, Ore.
Both the ceremony (in the courtyard) and the reception (in the gym) will be here. Kennedy School used to be an elementary school but is now home to no less than six bars, 35 guest rooms and a movie theater in the auditorium. Pretty much the perfect all-in-one wedding spot for those of us young at heart. Pictures to follow!

Food and Drinks:
Um, the wedding's at a McMenamin's so food and drinks are pretty much done.

Wedding Party:
I have my two girls (best friend and cousin) and Stephen has picked his three closest guy friends.

Welcome to the Madness!

Ask anyone, the idea of standing in front of a large group of people (really, any size group) is pretty much my number one nightmare. Add everyone staring at me, watching my every move and that sounds like the worst day ever. But in just over nine months that will be my reality. I'm getting married Saturday, Sept. 26 to the best guy ever, Stephen.

So I decided to start a wedding blog to keep track of any ideas, details and experiences that come up over the course of the next few months. I'll be talking about finding the perfect dress (wee!), budgets, favors, stationery, cakes, flowers, fiancées, families and whatever else pops up from now until the big day.
